Program Overview
The IMPRS on Cognitive NeuroImaging covers the highly interdisciplinary and fast-paced fields of cognitive neuroscience, clinical and translational neuroscience, and neuroimaging. The IMPRS on Cognitive NeuroImaging integrates leading regional and international partner institutions: The Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (MPI CBS) in Leipzig, Leipzig University (LU), TU Dresden (TUD), and University College London (UCL).
The IMPRS on Cognitive NeuroImaging aims to offer its students a cutting-edge educational program qualifying them for an excellent research career in cognitive neuroimaging and therefore offering a wide range of theoretical and methodological training opportunities in this rapidly evolving field of research. Teaching takes place both on-site and remotely. Lecture series are supplemented by a broad spectrum of scientific and transferable skills courses. Teaching and supervision are conducted in English. The duration of the doctoral program for students with a Master’s degree is three years.
General introductory courses and project-specific advanced training provide doctoral students with a solid foundation for their theses. The emphasis on neuroimaging and computational modeling further strengthens this foundation and enables new types of doctoral projects at the leading edge of the field.
Our aim is to accelerate students’ learning curves with innovative teaching approaches including hybrid teaching, flipped classroom activities, as well as remote learning elements, including blended learning. Students’ curricular activities are adapted to their individual backgrounds via individual development plans (IDP), while quality management such as peer evaluation and frequent faculty feedback ensure consistency.
Each new cohort of doctoral researchers begins their training with a mandatory boot camp where several welcome activities as well as teaching, relevant for all doctoral students, take place. Welcome activities (including socializing and meeting with buddies and faculty) are followed by a detailed introduction to the offers and requirements of the IMPRS and all participating partners. This aims to help students form a cohesive cohort and feel integrated in the respective departments and research groups before they start their PhD project.
